Our top 5 tips

Here are our top 5 tips to make your rail journey as stress free as possible:

1. Checking in
Make sure you allow 30 minutes to check in for all Eurostar journeys. On peak trains (Friday evenings) we advise you give yourself more than 30 minutes to check in. If you are a Business Premier traveller you should allow 10 minutes to check in - you'll also have access to the Business Lounges. Be aware that train doors will close 2 minutes before the departure time. Boarding after this time may not be possible.

2. Making a connection
Most connections in Lille or Brussels are a simple platform change but if you are connecting to another train in Paris you may need to change stations. We do factor in connecting times when issuing your ticket.

Find more information about changing stations in Paris on our website.

3. Using the Paris Metro
The Metro and RER underground networks in Paris operate in a similar way to the London Underground. Find a map and check the name of the last station on the line you need to travel, this will be on the front of the train, to make sure you are going in the right direction. Metro lines are identified by numbers and RER lines are identified by letters.

Download a free Metro map from our website.

4. Validating your ticket
If you are travelling onwards by train within France you will need to validate your ticket. Look for the yellow machines on the platforms and insert your ticket. You may be fined if your ticket has not been validated.

5. Checking latest travel updates
For the most up-to-date travel information check our Service Updates before you travel. If a train you are already travelling on is delayed make sure you get your ticket endorsed by the train guard. Show this to the ticket office at your arrival station and asked to be put on the next available train.
