Alternatively, take a short train ride to nearby towns. Swashbuckling Toledo is the former capital and is only 30 minutes away by train, and Salamanca's crazy carvings will have you head scratching all the way back to Madrid.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, when does the oldest restaurant in the world date back to?

• All entries received before 23.59 on 30 June 2012 will be entered into the Win a Trip to Madrid Competition.  Entries received after this time will not be entered.
• Only entries from UK addresses will be eligible for the Win a Trip to Madrid Competition.
• The winner is the entry selected at random, from all eligible entries received, on Monday 2 July 2012.
• Acknowledgement of the prize must be received within two weeks after the winner has been notified.  Every reasonable effort will be made to contact the winner. If a winner cannot be contacted by this time,  the prize may be awarded to another entrant.
• The prize is for 2 people and includes Return Eurostar Tickets, from either London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet  International Station to Paris, and return Gran Class Elipsos Trenhotel tickets from Paris to Madrid. 2 nights  stay at the Gran Hotel Conde Duque 4 star hotel, including breakfast.
• The prize does not include travel to the UK departure station, travel insurance or other miscellaneous holiday expenditure.
• The prize must be booked before 31 November 2012 and travel taken by 28 February 2013, all travel and accommodation is subject to availability.
• There is no cash alternative or exchange and the prize is non-transferable.
